Dwarf clusia is low-growing and spreads. It has unique foliage and is easy to care for. They are drought-tolerant and can even be used as a ground cover, border or accent plant. It is a semi-succulent so they don’t take much in the way of care. They love hot sun and add beautiful texture around the base of larger plants with bigger leaves. It has thick, bright green, paddle-shaped leaves and work best in casual landscapes.
Dwarf Clusia Specs
This shrub grows at a moderate rate and prefers full to part sun. The plant usually stays about 2 feet tall and spreads out 2 to 3 feet. They are salt-tolerant shrubs. These are also drought-tolerant plants once they’re established, so plant in an area that drains quickly after a rain.
Dwarf Clusia Care
You will want to add composted cow manure when you plant to enrich the soil. There is no need to trim unless you want to shape it. They require regular waterings with time to dry out in between. Fertilize 3 times a year with a granular fertilizer.
Dwarf Clusia Spacing
Place them about 2 to 2-1/2 feet apart. If you are planting next to the house or a fence give them about 1-1/2 to 2 feet. The dwarf clusia makes an excellent container plant and can even be trained as a bonsai.
