Juniper
A juniper has attractive, needle-like foliage that branches out horizontally, making them one shrub that needs very little trimming. These are super simple to grow. Their silvery or blue-green color fades to more of a soft green as the plants mature. Since they are very hardy a lot of builders in Florida use them to landscape with. At first glance, you may think this type of plant looks best suited for northern landscapes.
Juniper Specs
These plants do best in full to partial sun. Junipers are cold hardy, so they thrive anywhere in South Florida. They are also drought tolerant once established. They are slow growers to about a foot or two tall.
Juniper Care
You will want to add top soil and cow manure when you plant. Fertilize 3 times a year with a granular fertilizer. No trimming is needed. It prefers regular waterings with time to dry out in between waterings.
Spacing
They should be placed about 3 feet apart. Some varieties can go in at 2-1/2 feet apart. If you are planting next to the house, give them at least 2 feet. This plant will work in a container with good light and correct watering.
