The Rangoon creeper has flowers that start off white, change to pink and then deep red. They also have a very nice fragrance. This vine’s blossoms show all colors at the same time which makes for a awesome display of color. The foliage itself is also very attractive.
This is a very big vine that gets wide, which requires room to grow and strong support. They work perfect on a pergola because of the cascading blooms, drooping branches, and the light but sweet scent of the flowers.
Rangoon Creeper Specs & Spacing
Rangoon creeper does best in full sun to part shade. They might lose some leaves during a cold winter but they will usually bounce back in spring. They are a fast grower that can thrive in full sun to part shade.
If you are planting in rows to cover a fence, place them about 4 to 5 feet apart. Give them about 4 feet of space from the nearest shrub or tree when planting. Low growing plants can go close to the base of the vine once it reaches enough height to give them some clearance and light.
Rangoon Creeper Care
You will want to add top soil when you plant. It is also not a bad idea to add in composted cow manure. Cut them back hard in early spring. They prefer water on a regular basis, with a bit of time in between to dry out.
Fertilize twice a year with a granular fertilizer. You can supplement feedings with bone meal and/or liquid fertilizer to encourage heavier bloom.
